It’s been awhile but I’m back from hibernation. School and work is just so damn busy but it has kind of died down so I got some time to write some stuff. Saturday, went to Phantom of the Opera. It was a pretty good show. Then the next day I went to get the original soundtrack and the movie. Oh also went to C lounge with Alex and Ryanne. Music was shit, had many drinks but wasn’t feeling the vibe. Then Sunday went to the Raptors game with my bro. Had some lower bowl corner seats. It was an amazing view as the Raptors beat the crap out of the Bobcats. Then after the game went to Burrito Boyz for some burritos. Everyone should try this place once. Can’t wait for the next Sunday’s game. I got tickets for it too. Onions Baby, Onions! Raptors are officially in the playoffs!! Bring out the salami and cheese!!! Well hopefully I’ll update this blog often because exams in 2 weeks time!!! Well tune back in for some more daily ramblings!!! Until then!!!

Valentines Day!!! February 14, 2007

Happy Valentines Day!!! For all those couples it’s a time to celebrate. For those that are single it’s just another normal day. Who came up with valentines day? I don’t celebrate it. Too bad it ain’t an offical holiday so then I don’t have to go to work. Big snowstorm last night. Driving to work was a bitch. Got to work and lots of cake and waffles for breakfast. Had free pizza lunch from boston pizza. Luckily I didn’t get stomach problems as boston pizza and my stomach don’t mix. So tonight going out to dinner with the ladies. Going to be a suprise dinner as I have no idea where they are taking me. Maybe I’ll have some wine tonight cause need a little booze after a hard day’s work. Raptors won again last night. They aren’t pretenders no more and are actually contenders.
update:
The History of Valentine’s DayOne legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men — his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. It is said that Valentine actually sent the first ’valentine’ greeting while in prison. Valentine had fallen in love with a young girl who visited him during his confinement. Before his death he wrote her a letter in which he signed ’From your Valentine,’ an expression that is still in use today.I stole this off Thuet’s web site!! http://www.thuet.ca/home.asp Don’t worry Marc Thuet!!! I’ll pay you back $120 when I try out your chef’s tasting menu next month!!!! Oh by the way the raptors beat the nets tonight!! carter sucks as the crowd chants!!!! bosh for MVP!!!

Back to working the late shift this week. Feel burnt out but the weekend was good. Got an exam this Sat but all is good. Weekend was good. Sat was going to Japango for dinner but it was closed due to some wedding catering they were doing. This really bummed me out. So ended up at yonge st for korean bbq. bad idea!! It made my stomach not feel too well. On Sun, went to Chippy’s for some haddock, fish cakes and chips!!! Wow this really hit the spot and afterwards for some Second Cup vanilla bean latte because it was freezing ass cold. Later on in the night had some strawberry green tea mousse cake from Sen5es. Wow, like i said before. It really hit the spot!!! Anyways 24 is on tonight. 2 hours and I just can’t wait to go home and watch it. Gotta get my weekly dose of Jack.

Go Raptors Go!!! I love jumping on the bandwagon!!! Also, Norbit the movie is out staring Eddie Murphy. I plan to go see this because it seems to be a funny movie. Well it’s TGIF so all you boys and girls go out and party. Well hopefully my upgrade goes well and I can kick off the weekend!! Also congrats to the Colts for beating the da Bears in the superbowl, but I still hate the Colts!!!
Savoy Review February 5, 2007

This Saturday went with the gang for another winterlicious dinner. This time the restaurant was Savoy on Victoria and Dundas. When we got there, we headed up to the second floor and we have the special diining room reserve for us. The french music played while we soaked up the atmosphere there. The menu on the night was:
Roasted Cauliflower Soup
or
French Onion Soup
Caramelized onion, gruyere profiterole
or
Savoy Salad
Our version of the classic waldorf salad
or
Grilled black pepper calamari
Oven dried tomatoes and watercress salad
or
Moules Frites
White wine mariniere with crispy shallot frites
Grilled Striploin Steak
Roasted Shallot Frites, Béarnaise Sauce
or
Sole Grenobloise
Haricots Vert, Lemon Caper Beurre Blanc
or
Truffled mushroom Risotto
Fresh Asparagus, Shaved Grana Padano
or
Rosemary Cornish Hen
Red jacket potatoes, haricots verts, carrots, pan jus
Daily Crème Brulee
or
Berry Crumble
I had the french onion soup and it was real good. Actually the first place were the soup was not super salty. The steak was good and the frites were nice with the shallots. The creme brulee was good except that the carmelized candy topping was pretty thick. Overall I give it a 3.5 out of 5.
Cafe Michi Review February 5, 2007

Well Cafe Michi is the place for my birthday dinner. Booked a table for 10 and it was time for some good japanese food. I ordered the omakase for $45 and it was good but the variety compared to Japango was off. Lacked variety and it was all raw food. I guess it’s too hard to compare to Japango until I try out Kaji.
Overall the fish was fresh but the selection of fish was lacking. I give it 3 out of 5.
Da Gianni E Maria Trattoria Review February 4, 2007

Finally got the photos resized and I can take the time to write up a review for Da Gianni E Maria Trattoria. So went out with a bunch of friends to the restaurant and the funny thing was we stopped and park and went to the wrong restaurant. The place looked really ghetto and then I knew something was up. So finally got back into the car to look for the correct restaurant. So the Winterlicous menu for the place is:
Zuppa Di Fagioli ai Frutti di Mare
Bean soup with mussels and clams
or
Antipasto Gianni e Maria
Assorted Italian cold cuts, grilled vegetables, mini bocconcini and a slice of bruschetta
or
Sancrau con Cotechino (ancient Piemontese Dish)
Green cabbage cooked in white wine vinegar, olive oil, butter, touch of anchovies and garlic, served with Cotechino (a northern Italian pork sausage)

Gnocchi al Gorgonzola
Our famous potato pasta topped with our own homemade Italian gorgonzola cheese sauce
or
Ravioli alla Piemontese
Fresh homemade egg pasta stuffed with minced pork, chicken, beef, Swiss chard, spinach and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, eggs, garlic & served with a hearty meat sauce flavored with minced celery, carrots, onions, potatoes, garlic, red wine and aromatic spices
or
Penne, Salsiccia e Oyster Mushrooms
Homemade Penne with pork sausage and Oyster mushrooms served in a red sauce
or
Cernia al Cartoccio
Grouper fillet seasoned with lemon juice, salt, pepper, garlic and extra virgin olive oil, Topped with diced tomato and olives, and Baked in foil. Served with a small salad
or
Involtini alla Romana in Umido con Patate
Beef slices rolled with pancetta, celery, carrot and parmiggiano cheese in a tomato and potato sauce

Pannacotta
Italian style baked vanilla cream with lemon zest and topped with caramelized sugar
or
Tortino di Pere
Homemade pear torte topped with chocolate sauce and served with whip cream
or
Tartufo Gelato
Flavour of the day Overall for $25 the price was right and the food was good. Our waiter was not really that great but the food was good and my glass of chianti was nice. Nothing much to write cause I got other reviews but overall the food was good and the portions were big. I give it a 3 out of 5.
